 Discovering Stillness and Calmness
in the Midst of Our Life

Kum Nye Retreat
July 4 - 7, 2024
Ratna Ling Retreat Center

The world will be balanced when we are balanced.

We participate in infinitely complex and interdependent relationships with all of the many levels of existence., from subatomic to cosmic. Our immediate environment is also related to every other environment on earth, and the earth is influenced by events in the far reaches of the universe.

Every action we take, however small, affects the whole universe, just as every wave affects the shore.

When we acknowledge these interrelationships, we acknowledge the importance of creating harmony within ourselves.

We realize that we have the resources we need to be both, balanced and happy, for our bodies and minds are the vehicles for all our learnings and growth.

In Kum Nye we begin by developing stillness and calmness. (page 8 and 9 of Kum Nye Relaxation by Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche)

Stillness of body and space, calmness of breath and mind.

Through the weekend of extensive Kum Nye practice using Tarthang Tulku's three Kum Nye books and following Arnaud Maitland's training we will discover a Stillness and Calmness that is a natural part of our being. Learning to develop and sustain these qualities will be the focus of our seminar.

Senior teacher Arnaud Maitland discusses Kum Nye Tibetan Yoga

The World of Kum Nye

The practice and theory of Kum Nye is presented in three main books, authored by Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche. Each book provides its own set of exercises and theory, offering practitioners depth and variety in their study. We invite you to begin your own discovery and exploration of this rich and ancient tradition by exploring this site and learning more about what Kum Nye can offer you.

Kum Nye - Tibetan Yoga

Mind and body both seem to need relaxation, especially in today’s world where the business of everyday activities generates much stress. With Kum Nye, we can loosen up the tension connected with this stress and open up the sensitivity inherent in our human embodiment.

The Joy of BEing

The Joy of Being emphasizes the inner massage of feeling, using the senses to revitalize our capacities for seeing, hearing, sensing, touching, relishing and cognizing and creates the basis for a satisfying and meaningful life. It is intended to help you feel at home in your embodiment, so you will appreciate your inner treasures and be inspired to cultivate them further.

Kum Nye Dancing

The postures and practices in this book are not exactly massage. They are invigorating rather than soothing, designed to energize the body and to wake up consciousness. These are not precisely traditional Kum Nye postures, but instead are based on temple practices Tarthang Tulku had known as a young man in Tibet.
